ITINERARY

Day 1-2

Travel to London Heathrow by complimentary private car (within 50 miles) in time for the departure of your scheduled overnight flight to Delhi, arriving the next day. A private minibus and driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel for the first of two nights. After breakfast on day 2 set out for sightseeing of Old and New Delhi.

In Old Delhi you will visit the magnificent Red Fort. Within its walls are marble palaces and a grand audience chamber, the Diwan-i-Khas where Mughal emperors held court and the Peacock Throne once stood. Opposite the Fort are the black and white onion domes of the Jama Masjid, the most elegant mosque in India. Journey through the market place of the Chandini Chowk on a bicycle rickshaw and enjoy the experience of the colours, sounds and smells.

In the afternoon, visit New Delhi where you will see the impressive World War I memorial arch, the India Gate, and pass the Presidential Palace, the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the secretariat buildings. Continue on to see the ruins of the Quwat-ul-Eslam Mosque and Delhi’s most curious antique , the corroded Iron Pillar which dates back to the 4th Century A.D. (B,D)

Day 3

This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the New Delhi station to board the Shatabdi Express train to Agra. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the early afternoon you will be taken to visit the Agra Fort which is the other highlight of Agra, offering views of the Taj Mahal down the river. You will be guided through the various chambers of this vast royal residence. In the early evening enjoy a sunset visit to the famed Taj Mahal (closed Fridays) – the magnificent monument of love. The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631, and is believed to have taken over 20,000 craftsmen 18 years to complete it. It was masterminded by the Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his beloved Queen. (B,D)

Day 4

Leaving Agra, you will proceed to the deserted, pink-sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri, a town of the Mughal Dynasty built in honour of Saint Salim Chisti who foretold the birth of three sons to Emperor Akbar. Continue your drive to Ranthmabore, the famous tiger reserve.

Enjoy an evening drive through the park, known for its variety of fauna such as the tiger, chital, nilgai, jackal, panther, and many different bird species. Earlier a hunting ground for the Maharaja of Jaipur, Ranthambore is now a must visit for the adventure seekers and wildlife lovers alike. (B,D)

Day 5

This morning is a free optional drive to view more wildlife at leisure. In the afternoon check out of the hotel and proceed to the ‘Pink City’ – Jaipur. Check in to the magnificent Rambagh Palace. In the early evening visit a local home for high tea. Here you will be able to interact with the locals and know more about their way of life. (B,L,D)

Day 6

Popularly known as the Pink City, Jaipur was founded in 1727 A.D. by one of the greatest rulers of the Kachawaha clan – Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh who then made it Rajasthan’s capital city. In its wide streets, crafts such as jewellery, metalwork, enamelling, stone carving, pottery and leather work still exist to this day. It is a timeless city where the ancient and modern co-exist in complete harmony. Today’s excursion includes the 18th century City Palace complex with its numerous outbuildings, courtyards, impressive gateways and temples, the Palace of the Winds and the 16th century honey coloured Amber Fort, one of the great sights of Rajasthan. Today you will be driven back to Delhi in time for your evening flight back to London arriving the next day. (B)

Jaipur
Rambagh Palace 5*

For nearly two centuries, the Rambagh Palace has been home to generations of royals. Built in 1835 on a modest scale for the queen’s favourite handmaiden Kesar Badaran, it was later refurbished as a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge. In 1925, Rambagh was converted into a palace, and became the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The ‘Jewel of Jaipur’ as it is fondly called, remained the home of the Jaipur royal family until 1957, when it was first converted into a luxury hotel by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II.
